A person has died after falling from a cruise ship at a port within the Scottish Highlands.
The Viking Mars crew member was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the incident at Saltburn Pier throughout the Port of Cromarty Firth, Invergordon, on Friday morning.
Police Scotland mentioned the employee, understood to be aged in his 40s, died just a few hours later.

A spokesperson for Viking, which operates the ship, mentioned: “It’s with nice unhappiness that we verify a crew member handed away following an incident in Scotland on 18 August.
“We shared our deepest sympathies with the crew member’s household and are working to make sure they’ve the help they want throughout this troublesome time.
“Viking’s focus stays on the protection and wellbeing of our crew and company. Our operations crew is working with native authorities to find out how this occurred.”
The alarm was raised at round 11am and two ambulances, a helicopter, trauma crew and significant care paramedic had been despatched to the scene.

A police spokesperson: “Round 11am on Friday 18 August 2023, police acquired a report of a person having fallen from a ship at Saltburn Pier in Invergordon.
“Emergency providers attended and the person was taken by helimed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary the place he died just a few hours later.
“A report has been despatched to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The incident is being investigated by the Marine Accident Investigation Department (MAIB).
