US military gives Lockheed Martin $33.7 million to develop nuclear spacecraft

Lockheed Martin has been handed a contract to work on nuclear-powered spacecraft applied sciences.

The U.S. Air Pressure Analysis Laboratory (AFRL) awarded $33.7 million to Lockheed Martin as a part of the Joint Emergent Expertise Supplying On-Orbit Nuclear (JETSON) effort to “mature high-power nuclear electrical energy and propulsion applied sciences and spacecraft design.”
